During this tough time we're all going through it's great when we can highlight the positives and give OUR girls a platform to be highlighted and heard. It's been a pleasure watching Katlyn's game develop over the years and I think it's safe to say her best basketball is still ahead of her. One of the best shot blockers in the state and a highly skilled forward will take her talents to Austin Peay. She'll fit in well with the style of play as the team carriers several long forwards similar to Katlyn on the roster already with two of those set to be seniors this coming year.
Hopefully we'll have a high school season this year and Katlyn will be able to finish her career on the court as her Northwest team is again one of the top teams in 3A. The great story that many may night know is Katlyn's mom Nicole Manuel is also her high school coach. It's safe to say both of them would love the opportunity to finish this high school journey bringing a state championship to Northwest and etching their names in the history books with the programs first ever state championship.
We caught up with Katlyn for a quick Q&A on why she choose Austin Peay:
What stood out for you the most about Austin Peay than all of the other programs that recruited you and why did you choose Austin Peay?
The bond and relationship between the coaches and players was definitely something that stood out the most. It was obvious that they were very family oriented.
Why’d you decide to end the recruiting process when you did?
I felt that Austin Peay was the right school for me and that they could help me become a better person/player.
What was your most memorable moment during the high school career so far?
The most memorable moment so far would be making it to the state semifinals for the first time in school history.
What is it like playing for your high school coach
It’s good, but definitely challenging since she’s my mom, but that helps me grow as a player.
Any advice you can leave to the young girls looking to follow in your footsteps?
Stay focused and hardworking & don’t give up despite the obstacles you may come across throughout life.
