GAME OF THE WEEK RECAP
By Kendrick Golatt @coachkendrick_
Arguably the best show on the hardwood in the Parkway Lady Panthers traveled I-20 East to Monroe to take on the Wossman Lady Wildcats. Parkway is led by none other than the No.1 Player in the State/Nation and LSU Signee 2023 Guard, Mikaylah Williams. The Lady Panthers rolled into Monroe with a chip on their shoulders after finishing as the Class 5A State Runner-Up on last season.
The Wossman Lady Wildcats, however are fresh off winning the 3A State Championship last year. Led by 2024 Guard Da'Nya Ross, the Lady Wildcats entered the night 1-0 after defeating Huntington on opening night. With a deep supporting cast they look to try to make it Back-to -Back State titles.
As the ball got to bouncing both teams looked to strike quick. 2025 Guard Anyra Wilson would do just that as she got the Lady Wildcats on the board first as she blew past her defender for a And One layup. She would go on to finish with 10pts on the night. The Lady Wildcats would get out to a 5-0 lead before the No 1 Player in the nation Williams would remind everybody in the gym why she is the best player in the country. She would get the Lady Panthers on the board with a pull up three, to make it 5 to 3 , and then she gets a steal and goes coast to coast for a layup to make it 5 to 5.
As both teams settled into the game Parkway, who game into the game short handed having recently lost sophomore forward Savannah Wilson to season ending ACL imjury and 2023 Guard Ty'Lissa Henderson perhaps just a few games away from being able to go after having shoulder surgery , started to impose their dominance. The silent assassin Chloe Larry, 2024 Guard, would come alive and start knocking down big shots as she always does. The Lady Panthers would go to the half up 31 to 20.
Coming out of the half the Lady Wildcats wouldn't be denied.. They showed why the are the defending 3A State Champions as they would go on a run cutting Parkway lead which had grew to 15 down to 8, causing Coach Williams to call timeout . The game would began to tighten up and live up to the hype that which it was billed to be. The two squads would trade big shots after big shots.
In the end the Parkway Duo of Williams and Larry proved too much for the Lady Wildcats as they combined for 43 of the Lady Panthers 57 pts (Mikaylah Williams 23pts, Chloe Larry 20pts). The Wossman Lady Wildcats were led by Da'Nya Ross (15 pts) and Anyra Wilson (10 pts). The final score was Parkway 57 and Wossman 44, as both teams move on to the Battle on the Hardwood Tournament hosted at Parkway High School in Bossier City, La.
*All games at Battle on the Hardwood court 1 will be live-streamed to our YouTube page this week.
